For the second year running u13b made a final in our home tournament, fantastic displays from all the boys were evident and a number of neutral spectators commented on the quality of our passing game. At times we showed blistering pace and rapid 2 touch passing moves to rip through tough opponents to make a big statement about the progression the boys have made this year.
For the second year In a row we suffered the pain of a defeat in the final despite playing the better football, but it's goals that count. After a very tough season a victory in this tournament would have been just reward for the boys but it wasn't to be.
Awful conditions coupled with some sizeable opposition meant our opening two group games demanded total application and focus. We put up a good account of ourselves, excellent goal keeping from Ben, committed defending from Marcus, Dan S, and Kore backed up by midfield strength from Aron, Alex, Charlie and Tom W gave us good foundation to build from. We rounded off the group with a derby match against Ruislip Town where we took the lead through an excellent team goal, total football some might call it. It was everything we have concentrated on in training the last few weeks coming together, quick fire passing through the whole team culminated in a spit Ruislip defence able to offer nothing against a rifled right foot shot from Alex giving us a well earned lead.
In to the semi final and facing LNER. This game followed the same pattern as the last. Stones dominating possession and similar evidence of the pass and move. We won this one with a goal smashed in to the top left by Tom W when a move instigated by Marcus passed through Charlie and Aron before an an inch perfect pass from Aron gave Tom the opening and no mistake with the shot to put us in the final.
We lined up against Football Samurai desperate to put the disappointment of last year behind us. Always on top we pressed hard, two goal line scrambles in the Samurai area but we couldn't make it count. Desperate defending from them even included shifting the goal a yard or so in one attack to keep us out and then disaster, a bit of lost focus defending a corner and they sneaked in to head past us to take the lead. Despite more pressure on their goal we couldn't get an equaliser and they broke late in the second half to take the game with a 2-0 win.
It was hard on our boys and I felt sorry for all of them. They played ever so well, were well disciplined between the games and had to contend with awful weather conditions but overall they should be proud of their performance. They did themselves, our team, and the club proud.
Well done boys, playing like that you have a lot to be positive about..
