Harrow United 1-1 Wealdstone

Frustrating draw on very cold morning.

After last weeks defeat the boys were keen to put on a better performance and they did. The game started slowly with neither team really being able to get hold of the ball for significant periods. Despite looking comfortable we were to concede the first goal, a ball played forward to the edge of our box seemed to be going nowhere until a mix up at the back let the Harrow player get in to poke the ball home, 0-1 and not the start we wanted. To the boys credit they went straight at Harrow from the restart and put them on the back foot. We forced a number of corners which were delivered well by Fred G but again we could not get anyone on the end of them. It was from a corner that we would equalise, another good delivery was cleared to the edge of the area where Ahmad fired it back in at the keeper who couldn’t keep out the shot and the ball squirmed over the line with Michael following in to make sure, 1-1. We were now well on top and only some good saves from the Harrow keeper and the frame of the goal was keeping the scores level. Just before the break we were grateful to Jack for a good save on a rare occasion that our defence was breached, to keep the scores level at half time. The second half continued in much the same fashion with us creating the better chances whilst looking fairly comfortable at the back. Jamie, Danny and Ryan were winning the battle with their forwards and when they got in behind we were grateful of Ryan’s speed to get back and clear the danger. Despite being on top we were just not finding that bit of quality in the final third, with ball often just getting way from us. Harrow would however have the ball in the net from a free-kick but some good defending meant the final touch came from an offside player. We continued to create chances and a good ball sent Tommy through on goal but his effort would just roll past the post. Good work on the wings from Kyal and Yusuf would force more corners as the game drew to a close but again despite good delivery from Fred we could not force the ball in. Jack would be called into action again before the end with another terrific save as Harrow almost snatched a winner and the game ended with us again putting pressure on the Harrow goal but without reward and he game finished 1-1. A good performance from all the boys and with a little bit more luck and quality in front of goal we would have won comfortably. Man of the match was Danny, who again was solid in defence and well done to Ahmad for his first blues goal. Thanks to Nick for running the line. ⚽
