Good win to make it four out of four in phase two

Another cold day saw the boys put in another good performance against one of the better teams we have faced. The game started slowly with neither team really getting a hold on the ball. Our defence was looking solid as usual and were not being troubled and the midfield of Oscar, Liam, Kyal and Fred G were working hard but we didn’t seem to be creating much going forward. In fact the first goal would come from a mistake by Kodak. A long kick forward seemed destined to run through to keeper on the left of the area however he inexplicably picked the ball up before it entered the area and gave us a free kick. Michael stepped up and smashed it into the far top corner, 1-0. This seemed to give us a lift and we began to start playing some nice football and creating chances. A good move on the right saw the returning Tommy race through on goal and coolly slot the ball to the keepers left, only to see the effort hit the post and roll across the goal line and to safety when we thought he had scored. We continued to cause Kodak problems and soon had the ball in the net again. A corner was only cleared to the edge of the area where Oscar hit a good shot that the keeper could only parry out where Tommy was waiting to despatch the loose ball into net only to be denied by the linesman’s flag. We were to go close again before halftime and again it was a Fred G corner that caused problems, this time Liam controlling the ball and turning in one motion before volleying just wide. The half ended 1-0 and a deserved lead for the blues. A quick chat at half time and the boys were back out again and ready for action. With us playing up the slope and against the wind second half we were expecting to be under a bit more pressure and our back three of Ryan, Jamie and Danny were up to the challenge keeping Kodak at arms length and starting every attack from the back. The second goal would come in this way, Danny winning the ball brilliantly on the right and as usual calmly passing the ball forward to Michael, he took it on the turn and played the ball down the channel to Fred G, he outpaced his man before playing it back through to Michael who took one touch before firing in off the far post, 2-0 and a lovely move. Kodak began to put us under pressure from kick off and Jack was called into action after a good move saw Kodak get through one on one but Jack spread himself well to make a great block. However from the resulting corner a little bit of pushing saw Kodak awarded a penalty which was converted well, 2-1. Despite the scoreline being close it still seemed as if we were quite comfortable and we soon restores our two goal advantage. Ryan won another challenge on half way and immediately played a great curling ball through the centre to Michael who beat the last man before finishing well past the keeper for 3-1 and his hat trick. From kick off we went looking for the fourth goal that would finish the match, every attack either coming down the right with Tommy and Fred G or the left with Kyal and Alex. In fact Alex, Tommy, Ryan would all go close to adding the fourth goal with good attempts and Michael who would strike the bar late on. However the last goal of the game would go to Kodak in the closing minutes, a good strike from the edge of the area would be saved well by Jack only for the ball to fall to one of their players who knocked in the rebound, 3-2 full time. Another great effort from the boys and we really are playing well as a whole team, to win four games in a row is a great achievement and we should be proud of all our boys. Special mentions to Tommy, who it was great to see back on the pitch and was so unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, Alex who did well again as he continues his comeback from injury and Michael for three well taken goals. Man of the match as usual was a hard choice as everyone played so well again but Ryan edged it for an excellent display at left back, not only some great tackling and defending but also a threat for us going forward and assisting the third goal. Thanks to Matt for doing the honours with the flag. ⚽⚽⚽
