Entertaining 10 goal thriler

Wealdstone U11 5 - 5 Forest Utd U11
A bumper crowd turned out to watch goals galore in a game which the boys were very unlucky not to have won. Unusually for us we were on the front door from the kick off and soon we were putting the away defence under pressure with some good tackling and quick attacking and it seemed only a matter of time before we would score. It soon came, after some good work in midfield winning the ball back we broke quickly and Michael was brought down for a foul right on the edge of the area. From the free kick Liam stepped up and expertly smashed the ball straight into the corner of the net 1-0 for his first Wealdstone goal. It wasn't long before our defence was being tested by the opposition and we seemed to be holding firm until a lapse in concentration saw a long ball through the middle run for their striker who ran through and finished 1-1. The boys kept their heads up and continued to work hard and were duly rewarded when Ryan won the ball back in the middle of the pitch and decided to have a go ala David Beckham and the ball sailed over the keepers head and into the top corner, 2-1 we were back in front. We continued to work well going forward and the defence were keeping things tight at the back but the last ten minutes of the first half we appeared to tire which let Forest back in the game. First they scored with a good shot from the edge of the box which we failed to clear, 2-2 and then almost right on half time they got a free kick midway in our half and it was smashed into the top corner with nothing Jack could do about it, 2-3, we went into half time behind. After a strong team talk at half time the boys came out firing again and were soon well on top creating several chances. The equaliser soon came, a strong challenge by Liam on the edge of the area won the ball back and he calmly slotted it through for Michael to toe poke under the on rushing keeper 3-3. We were now well on top and we were creating chance after chance and it wasn't long before we were in front. One of several good corners by Freddie G found its way to the back post and Jamie calmly volleyed the ball back into the far corner of the net, 4-3, surely we would go on to win now. Not too be, we are undone again at the back soon after and they equalised, 4-4. Not to be beaten the boys kept their heads and continued to pile on the pressure, several chances came but their keeper managed to keep them out and he could do nothing but watch when Freddie G took aim from a free kick and rocked the crossbar. It seemed it may be we wouldn't score but then we broke again and the ball was played out to Michael on the left, he beat one, two, three players before coolly slotting the ball into the far corner, 5-4. The boys carried on pressing and looking for the goal that would seal the win but it didn't come and again a slip in concentration at the back let them in for the equaliser, 5-5 Full time. Every single one of the boys put in great effort and played well and were so unlucky not to come away with the win but everyone should be pleased with their performance and on another day it would have been a different story. MOTM was given to Michael for a good all round performance and 2 excellent goals. Thank you Nick for running line.
