A game of two halves...
Ickenham were never going to be a pushover and trailing 1-0 at half time, the boys produced a stirring second half performance to end 1-4.
The first half gets underway, and its all Wealdstone, pinning Ickenham in with some really strong early pressure. Wealdstone win a corner and everyone pushes up. The ball breaks out quickly and falls to the Ickenham No. 10, who manages to dodge tackles from both Dylan and Tommy and slots the ball past Shaun to give Ickenham the early lead 1-0.
Luke, who has be reinstated in his preferred midfield role is looking very lively and is putting in some great tackles to win back possession. Luke sets in Riley who narrows misses just wide. Harry picks up the ball in midfield this time and again shoots just wide.
Harry again links up with Luke and hammers another shot, this time with his left foot, but again its just wide of the target. Its all Harry, and another chance is saved by the Ickenham keeper. Is it going to be one of those days?
Wealdstone corner, Harry whips in a great cross which Riley latches onto.... shoots - agonisingly again just can’t quite find the target. Dylan and Tommy are forming a good defensive partnership at the back and prevent Ickenham from adding to their tally. The first half whistle blows and despite 8 shots at goal, Wealdstone trail 1-0 at the break.
The second half kicks off, Jack produces a cracking shot which just misses the upright. Surely the boys are going to break the deadlock soon. Jake, Luke and Tommy are putting in some great midfield work and Archie is starting to cause the Ickenham defence all sorts of problems with his movement.
Archie find space just outside the box, sets up Harry.... GOOALLLL! Harry smashes it right foot past the keeper to finally level the scores 1-1. Wealdstone win a corner, swung in by Harry, goal mouth scramble - GOOOAALLL!! Jack smashes in his first of season, 1-2.
Wealdstone pressure results in another corner, Riley picks up the cross, shoots - hits the woodwork and Jake rifles in from 4 yards.... GOOOAAALLLL! 1-3. The boys finally find their shooting boots and put some clear daylight between themselves and Ickenham, who look beat.
Harry picks up the ball in midfield, feeds Riley..... GOOOAAALLL! Riley cracks a great shot into the bottom corner and deservedly gets himself on the score sheet, 1-4.
The final whistle goes 1-4. A magnificent second half performance which takes the unbeaten run to 6 games.
Man on the match again goes to Harry, who has grown into a pivotal player for the Stones this season and is taking the lead in these hard to win games. Well done.
