Wealdstone edge cup thriller against Ickenham on penalties to progress to final eight of the League Cup.
Despite dominating early possession the Stones fell behind to a well taken Ickenham goal on the counter on 20 minutes.0-1
Credit to the boys they dug in and continued to put pressure on the Ickenham defence. A well delivered corner from the right on 22 minutes by David was well met by Lewis H to fire home from the edge of the box. 1-1
Spurred on by the equaliser, the Stones took the lead two minutes later. The Ickenham keeper pulled off a good save from Joe's low shot but could only parry it into the path of the onrushing Ben who showed good awareness and slotted home at the back post.2-1
Ickenham refused to lie down and scored their second of the game on the stroke of half time punishing some indecision in the Stone's defence. 2-2 HT
The second half was played in much the same manner - The Stones dominated possession but Ickenham got bodies behind the ball making them difficult to break down and looked to score on the counter.
Ickenham again stole the advantage notching their third of the game to lead 3-2 with 10 minutes remaining.
With the Stones facing a cup exit the team switched to three at the back and pushed for the equaliser. A spell of pressure on the Ickenham defence saw Alfie tripped in the box and Lewis H despatched the resulting penalty past the keeper for his second of the day and forced the game into extra- time FT 3-3.
Extra time was an even encounter ending 0-0 and so to penalties which the Stones edged (scorers: Joe, Dom, David and Ben; pen saved Jake 2)
