Out in quarter finals
Townmead Youth 0-0
Slow start to the tournament neither team able to score.
Maxim FC White 0-1
Riley got caught in possession dribbling out from defence, the attacker then went round Chris a little too easily and smashed the ball in at Filip's near post.
Foxes Black 3-2
Alfie slipped a pass through to Emilis who confidently rolled the ball in, 1-0, Foxes then equalised. Chris crossed Emilis flicked it on and Alfie thumped the shot past the helpless keeper, Foxes equalised for a second time. Riley then won a free kick just outside the area, dusted himself off and crashed it in off the bar, 3-2.
Bedfont Sports 1-1
Riley rolled a defence splitting pass through for Jahan to break clear and finish with a crisp low shot. Thomas as then adjudged to have pulled a player back in the area and Bedfont converted the spot kick, 1-1.
FC Starz White 2-1
In our final group game we faced the unbeaten table toppers, needing a win to progress. RIley took a low, hard corner from the left which seemed to catch out the Starz defender who turned it into his own goal. Thomas then played a Ramos through ball which Riley slotted home for 2-0. In the dying seconds a Starz player went down and a penalty was awarded and converted, but there wasn't even time for a centre, 2-1. I asked the referee what happened for the penalty, he said the lad had been fouled, but given the advantage until he then stumbled and fell.
We finished second in our group, but as we had the fourth best points and goal difference for a second place side, qualified as the best placed side in the plate. After a long delay we drew the fourth placed side from our group in the quarter finals Maxim FC White in the Quarter Final.
Maxim FC White 0-1
The quarter final was a scrappy game, we lost possession from our throw and they scored a lucky goal. I was told the Maxim coaches were advising their players to play the man forget the ball, which resulted in Chris taking an elbow to the mouth and splitting his lip. Unfortunately at the final whistle, Chris reacted to abusive language from a Maxim player by poking him in the head, at which point a Maxim coach ran onto the pitch and grabbed Chris by the arm. Once I asked our players and parents to leave the pitch I observed both the Maxim coaches aggressively challenging the referee, asking for his name so they could report him. The referee did a good job calming the situation and once the two coaches realised I was filming them they left the pitch. A sad end to an exciting day.
