Riley Hits Hatrick
We played Hanwell D in the preseason tournament and won 2-1 in a short game.
Goals - 3 Riley, Alfie
This was our first ever game at New Pond Playing Fields and it didn't take long for Riley to open the scoring, the keeper was on the edge of his area Riley rounded him and passed the ball in, 1-0. Chris took a good corner from the right and Riley headed over the bar. Hanwell then hit back on the break Scott missed a tackle, Chris then tackled well, but when the ball broke on the right of the goal they were quick to pounce, 1-1. Chris then played an excellent long range pass down the line to Riley who ran from the halfway line and scored with a very tidy finish. Second quarter Jahan had a goal disallowed for kicking the ball out of the diving keepers hands and hitting the target, if he had been a fraction earlier it would have stood. Riley then completed a fantastic first half hatrick, he cut inside on the edge of the area and hit a powerful shot which deflected in off the keeper, Half time 3-1.
After the interval Matthew thought he had scored, but Hanwell defenders protested that it had already gone behind the goal line and we were awarded a corner. Hanwell had also won a number of corners, which were all delivered well, when one was particularly hard and low it wasn't a surprise to see it tapped in at the back post, 3-2. Just as parents nerves might have been beginning to jangle, Alfie quickly closed down a goal kick, won the ball and struck a well hit shot past the keeper. This was great to see because I encourage quick pressure from our midfield on opposition goal kick restarts. I think it is also worth mentioning Scott, who played left back for two quarters and showed excellent discipline in his positioning.
Parents MOTM was Riley for an well taken hatrick and a solid quarter in goal.
