Close Call at Rectory Park
Eagles wings clipped
Our only previous game against the Eagles was against their A team who gave us a bit of a hiding a couple of years ago.
Goals - Sam, Riley, Brihad, Emilis
An oversight on whatsapp meant we were without Filip in goal as we lined up on a very wide rectory park pitch. Early on Scott had a shot well saved by the eagles keeper and Thomas shot wide to the right after a long goal Brihad goalkick. Unexpectedly the referee decided to play straight through to half time and we began to get on top. An Eagles defender deflected the ball off his own post Sam was quick to pounce and slotted home. Riley then fired our second goal high into the roof of the net and we were cruising to the interval when they hit back 1-2.
After the break Brihad hit a shot that was heading for the top left corner which the keeper tipped round the post. From the resulting corner there was a goal mouth scramble that seemed to last for half a minute until finally the keeper snubbed it out, saving on the line. Brihad then hit a curling shot from outside the area into the top left corner, this time the keeper had no chance, 3-1. We began to play very high up the pitch looking for more goals, but as players forgot their positions we were hit on the break, 3-2. As we headed into the final quarter, the Eagles tail feathers were up, they scored again Riley opting to try and save with his feet when his hands might have made the difference. Just as a comfortable win seemed to be getting away from us, Emilis rifled a shot into the roof of the net.
This was a deserved win, but had we kept our discipline, shape and positions we could have had a much more relaxing afternoon.
