First proper game of 2019 - and boy what a game!
After last week it was a good sign when I arrived to see players from Regents warming up, which they needed to do today as there was a cold very blowy wind to my back.
From the kick off you could see they were very well organised by their captain and were very good at turning the ball. Unfortunately in the first 10 minutes they got the ball down our end, and with a little help from the wind, scored the first goal. Jamie got his hand to it but it rolled over the top of his fingers. Wealdstone were very much on the defence in the first half, but that was the only goal.
Second half kicked off very quickly, I confess I wasn't back from getting my cup of tea, but the wind had dropped and our boys came out fighting. In the first 15 minutes we got a free kick which Dom thumped home, followed very quickly by Harry breaking through their defence and hammering our second goal home. This seemed to phase Regents and although we had several chances from Harry, Dom and Sam the ball just couldn't find it's way into the back of the net. Just over half way through, and Regents broke through to score the equilizer. This really bought out the passion in both sides and play was fast and at times furious. With about 10 minutes to go Flynn got booked - still not clear why - and the crowd did the usual 'ref!' when of the Regents players used some rather rude language towards us which we did call him out on.
At last final whistle blew to a 2-2 draw.
On a final, personal, note - to the 3 Regents players who were staring at me the whole way across the pitch as I went to collect my son, if you were trying to stare me out it didn't work. I will leave it there.
