Before the match started, a minutes respect was held for the young goalkeeper from Harefield who sadly passed away last week. Our thoughts are with his family.
We knew this would be a strong match as Chiswick were second in the table and Jamie (our goalie) was unavailable for this match. EJ stepped up to the plate and defence and mid were on their A game. Wealdstone started strongly and were on the attack but Chiswick fought back to score the first goal, Wealdstone came back on the attack the ball was given a corner kick, Sam took it, Flynn was on the line as was a Chiswick player, Harry kicked it home after the goalie tried to stop it and it rolled off the back of his hand - but it was given off-side?!! Anyway, this fired Wealdstone who could see they could get opportunities and it wasn't long before Harry fired it home to make it 1-1.
My heart was racing and my voice hoarse but the team where on fire and doing all they could to help EJ, play ran back and forth at a fast pace, I got the feeling Chiswick wasn't expecting such a fight. Max took a free kick from near the half way line, kicked it down towards the corner where Sam hammered it home. Not long to half time and Chiswick fought back to make it 2-2.
Second half and Wealdstone were on the attack, several near misses and mid and defence worked hard to stop Chiswick getting near our goal. We were definitely the stronger side in the second half and had more opportunities than Chiswick. The team did an excellent job, working well together and the only times Chiswick got through it was rag tag and EJ stopped them. The second half seemed to pass quickly and with only a couple of minutes to go Wealdstone got the ball to the Chiswick end but couldn't quite finish the job.
Final Whistle 2-2 a fabulous game.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and here's to 2019
