A team performance seals a hard fought victory
Back to winning ways
The weather saw the venue of this match changed late on Saturday to Sidmouth Drive, but everyone managed to arrive okay and we kicked off at 10.30am against a tough Pitshanger Team. They have been making steady progress in Group C, with 6 wins and 4 defeats so we knew it was going to be a tough match. Pitshanger started well, but Wealdstone Whites defended strongly, making a number of tough tackles on the edge of their box in the first quarter. As the quarter progress Patrick started get hold of the ball in midfield and surged forward. Our first goal came as Oliver moved down the left, laid it back to Patrick who crossed it for Oscar to strike first time as he arrived at the back post. Pitshanger continued to play well, but Wealdstone grew into the game. Solid performances in defence from Aidan, Thomas and Charlie kept them away from our goal and when they did break through James was quick off his line to slide at the attackers feet and prevent them scoring. Second half there continued to be chances for both sides, with nice attacking play down the wings from Harry, Oscar and Thomas and more solid defending. Unfortunately Pitshanger managed to equalise when they put in a cross that skimmed off Charlie's head and looped over the diving Harrison. But Wealdstone's heads did not go down, a quick throw from the right found Patrick, who cut inside and beat the defender and shot low past the diving goalkeeper to make it 2-1. In the last quarter Wealdstone whites are always strong, so it was no surprise that more goals sealed the victory. Oscar picked up the ball just side Pitshangers half and rifled a powerful shot into the roof of the net, 3-1. Late goals from Patrick and Aidan completed the win, but it was the hard work and tough tackling in the first 3 quarters that made this victory. There were lots of really good performances from the boys, a real team performance, but a great display at the back from Charlie, including heading one off the line secured him Man of the Match. Well played everyone.
