Stones in unlucky defeat
By Daniel Reen
A new look U8 whites took to the field for their first game of the season. With Brooklyn unavailable only 2 players Kallum and George from the original soccer school team started and 3 including Caden who finished last season. We welcomed Logan and brothers Janis and Eddie to the team to complete the new line up.
We knew it would be a tough game for the boys with half a new team against a side who we knew would play quite physical. The game seemed to go one end to the other with the score swopping each time. We had the lead twice only to be pegged back and on the balance of play should have been a few ahead with the chances that were created. The boys played some excellent football in patches and showed good signs that once the boys gel and get to know each other this will be a very good team. This was highlighted with the second goal that started with Caden and one and two touch football with every player involved and a fine finish at the end. Towards the end the boys went 6-3 down but showed determination to pull it back to 6-5 so nearly getting the equaliser twice before the final whistle. Goals came from Logan, Kallum. Caden in goal made some good saves and showed how he’s improved over the summer, George was a rock at the back and set the attack going with some good passing. Janis came close to scoring a few times and showed his battling qualities tackling hard and having an eye for a pass. Logan was a terrier causing havoc to TFA’s defence with his dribbling, Eddie show lots of great qualities and linked up well with Kallum who was excellent for most part and scored his customary trade mark free kick.
The boys were unlucky to finish on the losing side but can be proud of how they played and never gave up. MOM went to Logan for his 3 goals and all round game
