Wealdstone U8A vs TFA Totteridge A
After two draws Wealdstone beat TFA Totteridge at the third attempt
This was the last home game of the second phase of games and gave us our third game against TFA Totteridge A, the previous two games finished in draws which could easily have been Wealdstone wins. The pitch was in relatively good condition compared to earlier on in the year but was still quite heavy in places and the grass had been allowed to grow long. The day was cold and very windy, Wealdstone had chosen to play the game against the wind in the first half which should give them a good advantage in the second half.
Wealdstone Kicked Off. Charlie with a good cross which was well defended by TFA, TFA responded with a quick attack and low shot which was well saved by Owen. Jon with a corner played to the centre of the goal, Troj volleyed just over the bar. TFA with a corner played hard to the near post, Owen saved but the striker was first to the rebound (0-1). TFA with a shot from just inside the Wealdstone half which bounced straight back off the post. Owen played a long ball into the TFA area which caused confusion in the defenders and Harry W was first to the breaking ball and scored (1-1). TFA with a throw into the area which was not picked up and left the TFA striker with an open goal but Alex made up the ground and blocked the shot.
TFA Kicked off. Troj with a strong run on the left and played the ball to Jon who couldn’t get his strike right as the ball bobbled just as he was shooting. Oliver with a throw played into the box which the defender headed towards goal and the keeper saved on the line. Oliver with another long throw to Jon who controlled the ball and finished well (2-1). TFA with a good passing move which left the striker one on one with Owen who stood his ground and saved well. TFA with another fast break but Harry S recovered well to clear the ball. Darcy with a quick throw in to Harry W who brought the ball down and placed the ball passed the keeper (3-1). Owen played a long kick out which the TFA keeper came out to but the ball bounced over his head and went in (4-1). TFA with a good passing move and goal (4-2). Jon intercepted the ball high up the pitch and played the ball back to Charlie who had a first time shot well saved. Owen took a goal kick which went straight through to the TFA goal and the keeper had to make a diving save to keep the ball out. Full Time.
Wealdstone fought well for the win in this game and kept going right to the end. In the previous games against Totteridge A we had let leads slip late in the game which had been very disappointing, today the team seemed very determined to not let this happen again. There were times in the game when TFA were on the front foot and putting Wealdstone under pressure but the team held firm and kept on going and did not let TFA take control.
