Good win in tough conditions
WEALDSTONE (Under 10 C) 3
RUISLIP RANGERS (Under 10 C) 2
Wealdstone played an entertaining match at home today in stormy conditions. The final score was a close 3-2 but this did not reflect the dominance and shots on goal that we had.
The Stones starting line-up was:
Alex Bailey (C)
It took us a few minutes to find our feet in the swampy mud, which unfortunately meant we conceded an early goal. However, our boys were not fazed by this and once we had possession we weren’t going to let Ruislip Rangers have a look in. Our passing was superb and our defending, led by Alex, Bailey and Danny (who came on in the first half), was outstanding. Ruislip Rangers barely had the ball in the opposition’s half. However, despite having chance after chance, Jamie, Yuvvy, Ryan, Bailey and Oscar just couldn’t find the back of the net in the first half. (H/T Score 0-1).
There were a couple of changes in the Wealdstone line up for the second half. Oscar made his debut as the Goalkeeper. In the early moments, Ruislip Rangers put the pressure on resulting in two corners. The first of which saw Oscar make a dazzling save, showing superb reflexes to keep the ricocheting ball out. The ever-reliable Bailey was there to clear the second corner. Normal service was then resumed with Wealdstone taking back control of the game and we got our deserved equaliser. The breakthrough finally came with Yuvvy scoring in the far post from a tight angle. 10 minutes of excellent team work followed which resulted in Yuvvy crossing the ball on the ground and Jamie tapping it in the open net. 2-1 and the Stones were in front.
Wealdstone continued to dominate possession, Michael made some fantastic runs down the pitch but the team couldn't quite finish, but within 5 minutes after our second goal, Yuvvy scored his second goal of the game to give us a two-goal advantage. With the pressure off and the boys tiring from running in the deep mud, Ruilsip Rangers took advantage and scored in the bottom corner right at the end of the game.
The Wealdstone Boys showed true grit and determination, and under the excellent direction of Ray (who probably has little voice left) every player performed at their best, resulting in a well-deserved 3-2 win.
