Wealdstone U9 White vs AFC Wembley
By Aidan King
Disappointing finish to the season
With the Easter break it had been a couple of weeks since we had last played a match and everybody was looking forward to playing again. We had never played Wembley before so were not sure how difficult a game it was going to be. The weather during the week had been terrible rain and training on Saturday at The Vale had been a bit of a mudbath, thankfully the pitch at Sidmouth Drive had coped well with the weather and was very firm under foot. The weather was cloudy but warm enough not to see any of the boys wearing gloves.
Wembley Kicked Off. Wembley with an early break and the striker turned Charlie but made back the ground and cleared. Charlie with a ball to Stevie who went on a run and put his shot just wide. Stevie with a dribble near the bi line and a shot which was saved, the keeper played the ball out quickly and Lewis was left one on one but he read it well and cleared. Stevie with a cross from the right which was deflected and went just wide. Wealdstone corner into the box which resulted in a bit of a scramble with Charlie having a couple of shots but the keeper eventually cleared. Corner to Wealdstone went to Alex but his header was well saved. Alex with a pass to Jon who received the ball turned and shot low and hard into the corner (1-0). Troj with a pass to Oliver who played it back but Troj’s shot went over. Wembley with an attack and Owen saved, the ball went to the second striker who passed the ball into Owens hands. Throw by Stevie to Troj who shot first time but it was saved. Wembley with a good break and cross but the shot went wide. Alfie played a ball to Troj who run with the ball and crossed, Oliver met the ball on the volley but his shot went wide. Half Time.
Wealdstone Kicked off. Wembley with a good cross which Owen met and put over the bar. Jon with some good work on the right and crossed to Harry who finished it well (2-0). Wembley with an attack and shot, Owen got a hand to it but the striker finished (2-1). Wembley attack and cross which was deflected and went in (2-2). Long ball by Wembley the striker turned and shot but Owen saved. Corner by Harry which Jon headed towards goal but the ball was stopped on the line. Break by Wembley and a cool finish (2-3). Long ball by Alex which was struck first time by Oliver but it went just wide. Stevie with some strong play high up the pitch, found himself some space and shot just over. Wembley attack which Connor read well and cleared. Full Time.
For our last game of the season this was a bit of a disappointment, Wembley kept themselves in the game and were determined to get the result. This may have been one game too many for Wealdstone and the boys did not seem to have the motivation that they had shown in previous games. We struggled with passing and positioning and there were points in the game where we seemed to have no midfield, a little bit like the defeat to Parkfield. That being said Wembley had very few clear cut chances whereas Wealdstone kept creating opportunities throughout the game and on another day may have won this game easily.
