Wealdstone U9 White vs Ickenham
By Aidan King
Good performance by Wealdstone sees them draw against local rivals
After a hard couple of weeks which saw us losing our sequence of winning games with two defeats, the team needed to up their game to ensure that we did not start the wrong type of run. Ickenham came to Wealdstone with an unbeaten record in the league and had beaten the two teams who we had recently lost to. In recent times the games we had played against Ickenham had generally been close run affairs with little between the teams, if we were to win the players needed to be at the top of their game. The weather was once again very bright and sunny but very cold, overnight there had been a heavy frost which thankfully had thawed by kick off. The pitch was quite heavy but in relative good condition.
Wealdstone Kicked Off. Stevie with a run on the right and a cross which was well cut out. Troj with a crossed ball to Stevie who played in Harry W but his shot went wide. Troj with the ball on the left and fired the ball from a tight angle and scored (1-0). Stevie with a good cross from the right which found Troj but his header went just wide. Ickenham with a good run on the left and a shot which went across the goal. Ickenham with a good turn in the box but the resulting shot was blocked by Lewis. Oliver with the ball on the left and played a good through ball to Stevie who shot just over the bar. Troj with a run and pass to Alex but the defender tackled well, the ball broke to Lewis who shot from distance which was well saved. Ickenham with a good dribble and cross but their striker missed the ball. Ickenham with a good through ball and first time shot which Owen tipped over the bar. The resulting corner went straight across the goal but there was no Ickenham player to put the ball into the net. Half Time.
Ickenham kicked Off. Stevie with a dribble but his shot was saved. Ickenham break down the middle of the pitch but their shot went over. Ickenham with good pressure on the left which resulted in a shot into the side netting. Wealdstone corner from the right to Harry S but he just couldn’t quite make contact in front of goal. Corner by Jon knocked out to Oliver who saw his shot stopped on the line and cleared. Ickenham cross was well headed out by Charlie and Lewis with a well watched volley to clear. Oliver with a long throw which was knocked out and Oliver struck it first time but it was well saved. Jon with a good one two with Oliver and a shot which was well saved by the keeper. Ickenham with a break and shot which went well over. Ickenham with a quick break but Harry W tracked back well and cleared. Ickenham with good pressure in the box and a calm finish (1-1). Troj with a cross which was knocked clear but Connor was following in and shot just wide. Good passing move between Troj and Harry W which ended with a pass to Harry S but his shot was saved. Full Time.
The performance of the team was very good and consistent throughout the game. The team were passing much more than they had in the previous weeks and had reduced the amount of wasteful dribbles. There was a noticeable improvement in the tracking and covering all over the pitch. The game was played a lot in midfield with parts of the game where there was limited chances for either team. Ickenham are a strong team who are well organised and have a couple of forwards who are very good on the break but Wealdstone stood up to this all game and were able to contain their attacks while still creating some good chances. Well done to all the boys, a good performance which on another day could have easily been a win.
