Wealdstone U9 White vs TFA United
By Aidan King
Wealdstone's winning start to the season comes to an end
This was only the second time we had played TFA United and the first game finished with a narrow 5-4 win for Wealdstone. This was the last of the teams we are less familiar with before we play Parkfield and Ickenham who have both had good starts to the season. The pitch was a little bit heavy and was showing signs of cutting up. The weather was very bright but this did not take the edge off the chill which was made even colder by the wind. The boys seemed to be relaxed and looking forward to the game as you would expect after a winning start to the season.
TFA kicked off. Wealdstone throw broke to Oliver who shot just over the bar. TFA with a quick break but their shot was blocked by Harry S. TFA with another break and shot just wide. TFA with a strong run towards goal and shot which was tipped over by Owen. A good tackle by Alex high up the pitch and he was able to shoot but it went wide. Ball by Jon to Oliver who played in Stevie but the defender read it well to clear. TFA with a throw to the striker and a powerful shot resulted in a goal (0-1). A nice dribble by Stevie in the box saw him with a shooting opportunity but it was well blocked. Jon and Oliver played some nice passing to get into the box but Oliver’s shot was blocked. Low corner by Alex to Stevie but his first time shot went wide. Good pressuring by Wealdstone and the ball broke to Jon but his first time shot went wide. TFA striker ran across the Wealdstone box and took a shot which went in (0-2). TFA with some good pressure, the ball broke to the forward who scored (0-3). Charlie with an interception and pass to Harry W who played a nice one two with Stevie but his cross was cleared for a corner. Half Time.
Wealdstone Kicked off. Wealdstone with a free kick 5 yards outside the box Stevie stood up to take it and scored (1-3). TFA with some good pressure and after 3 blocked shots they scored (1-4). Cross by Alex was mishandled by the keeper but Stevie’s shot was saved, the ball broke to Troj who controlled the ball turned and fired the ball home (2-4). Alex with a tackle and pass to Jon who played in Stevie, Stevie turned his man but the defender cleared after a hard tackle. TFA with a good passing move which left the striker with a tap in (2-5). Good break by TFA but Lewis read well and cleared. Jon with a good tackle and switched ball to Troj who struck the ball first time but it went wide. Full Time.
This game was a disappointing way for us to lose our winning start to the season, the boys started the game looking nervous of the TFA players – standing off them and letting them run at the defence. In the previous games we had been passing and receiving the ball well but today they just did not seem to be able to get it together, there were flashes of good play but it just felt like we were struggling to get into a rhythm. This season we have looked strong defensively and have had players covering if the first man was beaten but this was missing from our play today. I think this performance was a bit of a blip but it could end up being a positive thing in the long run, showing what can happen if we are not at 100% in every game in a league where every team is a good team and every win is won on merit.
