Another close game but Wealdstone win again
After a winning start to the league we were looking forward to the first game at home which saw us up against Cademy who were formally known as FC Real, either way they were a new team to Wealdstone and we did not know what to expect. After a heavy rainfall the previous evening it was good to see a near cloudless sky and it feeling relatively mild.
Cademy Kick off. Cademy started with early pressure and had an early shot hit the post and go wide which would have been a definite goal had Alex not got in the way and deflected it. Oliver received the ball and played in Stevie who shot onto the post was first to the rebound but the keeper saved well. The ball was played wide on the left for Oliver to chase who collected it and played a cross which beat the keeper but Stevie was just not quite quick enough to put the ball into the open goal. Cademy broke fast and had a two on one with Harry S who held his position well and cut out a pass which would have left a clear chance on goal. Jon won the ball in midfield and played it forward to Oliver who laid it on to Stevie who crossed it to Troj but the keeper came out well. Wealdstone got a free-kick on the edge of the area and Jon took, he beat the wall but the ball hit the post and went wide. Cademy went on the attack and found Lewis isolated but he read the situation well and won the ball. Cademy started to put some pressure on Wealdstone and a good passing move resulted in a shot which went just wide. Troj won the ball on the edge of the box turned and shot but the keeper saved well, Charlie was first to the rebound but saw his shot saved by the keeper who managed to hold on to the ball. Cademy passed through the middle of the pitch and a lucky break saw the ball come to their striker who had his shot saved but they had a player following up to score (2-2). Wealdstone put some real pressure onto Cademy with a couple of half chances. Oliver took a long throw into the box which Troj flicked onto Stevie who chipped the ball passed the keeper (3-2). Long ball up the pitch to Stevie who saw his shot well saved, Jon collected the ball from a wide position and crossed it into the box but couldn’t find a player. Cademy with some good pressure and a break which saw a shot well saved by Owen. Full time.
The match was another close match in the end and could have easily finished as a draw. When Wealdstone went two nil up they should have been able to see the game out with a comfortable win. However Cademy pushed on with some real determination and forced their way back into the game, once they conceded the second goal they really stepped up and won most of their on pitch battles with Wealdstone losing a bit of discipline and shape. This all being said it was good to see that even though they lost the lead they had the will-power and team spirit to push on and regain the lead.
