U7 Blues hit 5 to come out on top again in local derby.

3 years ago By Mike Williams

A glorious sunny day at The Vale was the setting for our latest post season friendly, a tough match awaited with the opponents being Ickenham Youth who we’d had a couple of previous encounters against with mixed results.

The boys lined up in a 6 a side game which was to be played over 3 20 minute periods giving the boys a new experience of an hour of football in the hot sunshine.

We said to the boys before the game that our last match had set a standard of football that they needed to keep to with the effort, passing and team play making us 4-0 winners. We pointed out a couple of things to improve on and we were ready to go.

The game started brightly with both teams passing the ball about well, making tackles and trying to make things happen. It was a very tight affair with a few chances to both sides. Harry done well making a few saves when needed, Sid and Jamie at the back dealing with most attacks and looking to move the ball forward, James and Lewis T were doing well on the wings getting pass their players and getting crosses in but we were unable to find the target despite some fine shots by Lewis W just missing the target or being saved by the goalie. We made a couple of changes with Kacey and Harvey coming on down the right and up front. Finally the 1st goal came with Harvey breaking away to finish well in the bottom left corner 1-0! The game continued in a tight manner with few chances at each end and both teams playing well, just before the break a rare few seconds of switching off and Ickenham struck back 1-1! There wasn’t much time to play much more when the 1st Third finished. We told the boys to carry on with how they were playing but to not give up on any ball until it was out of play or in the goalies hands.

The 2nd third kicked off and we seemed to be more determined in the tackle and really started to take the game to Ickenham, Sam came on and his energy and desire showed in trying to win every ball, he had his head up and was looking to get the ball forward. It wasn’t long before Sam went forward got tackled but didn’t give up on the ball won it back and kept going got his shot away for a fine finish 2-1! A fine example on never giving up on a ball till its dead. A few more subs were made and all the boys that came on did as well as the boys who came off showing a real balance that we have to the team. James was great going forward beating his man with a trick and getting a pass or a cross through and also tracking back, Kacey on the other wing likewise and unlucky not to get on the score sheet and also doing a fantastic defensive job against their number 5 who was a real tricky customer. Jamie Green was great in every position he played in defensive, on the wing and up the middle, a real utility player. Lewis T was superb both at the back and on the right, his effort and commitment along with his undoubted ability was a pleasure to watch. Sid was awesome at the back with some of his tackles 1-2 years ahead of his age, Lewis W played at the back up the middle and on the left and was brilliant in all, his tackles stopping Ickenham and his shots and crosses causing them problems. Harry continued to keep any shots that got through at bay and was brave on a few occasions saving amongst lots of feet during a goalmouth scramble. Lastly but not least was Harvey in only his second game with us, was a real handful using his size and strength to great effect but also showing glimpses of technique and skill to create chances and win the ball and break away. He did this extremely well resulting in 3 further goals completing his hat trick +1! The game finished 5-1 which was well deserved win from the effort of all the boys.

Today MOM was very hard with 3 strong contenders Harvey Sid and Lewis. We gave it to Harvey for his all-round performance and 4 well taken goals but Lewis T and Sid along with all the others should be very proud of themselves as they did keep the standard set in the previous game and in two thirds of this one were exceptional.

The boys attitude and discipline today was excellent and it was great to see the 3 boys who were subs in the last 10 mins cheering on their team. I really believe this attitude along with the extra training is what’s taken us forward. So thanks again to all the parents for getting the boys there and for reinforcing the behaviour side.

Come on you Stones!

MOM – Harvey
