U7 Blues hit 4 in their best team performance to date

4 years ago By Mike Williams

Wealdstone 4 – 0 Brentham Colts

A home friendly at the Vale on a sunny Sunday morning set the scene for what I think was probably our best team performance to date. Our opponents had recently beaten us at the Wealdstone tournament in a tight 1-0 loss so we knew it would be a tough game. The good weather had bought a large crowd with parents from both teams and some parents from other teams coming along to watch and cheer us on.

We had a large squad with 9 players including debutant Harvey so agreed to play 6 a side. The game started with the Blues kicking downhill, from the off we looked awake and lively and were passing the ball around nicely with all the boys keeping their heads up and finding their teammates well. Chances were being created from both wings with good work from Captain for the day James and Jamie beating their markers and getting crosses across but we were unable to finish. After 10 mins we made our first subs and not long after an attack down the left with Lewis T beating his man breaking into the penalty area and dinking a perfect ball through to Lewis who made no mistake from close range, 1-0! The first half continued much in the same way, Brentham Colts breaking on occasion only for either Sid, George or Sam to make the decisive tackle or for Harry to save, one particular one was a fine save low down to his left keeping the shot out and pouncing on the loose ball. Harvey got in some good positions only to leave his shot too late or just go wide, you could sense a goal would come for the debutant! Lewis hit the post near the end of the first half and that’s how we went into Half time 1-0 up. The second half got under way and went in very much the same fashion as the first only for a few more of our chances going in, an excellent shot from Harvey giving the keeper no chance down to the bottom left corner made it to 2-0, a third came from James, a shot from distance beating the keeper and the fourth a high looping effort from Lewis T going in over the goalkeeper to get him off the mark in a Wealdstone shirt. All the boys played well today, Harry keeping a clean sheet, George and Sam at the back and further up the field, James, Lewis T and Jamie on the wings and Lewis W and Harvey up top but MOM was given to Sid for his superb defending, timing of tackles, excellent distribution and never say die attitude a real Ledley King performance although I’m sure he’d prefer John Terry!

Today was very pleasing all round and our opposition coach commented on how well all our boys passed it and all worked extremely hard for the team. The extra training is paying off and also the attitude and discipline has improved massively with the boys concentrating in training and at matches much more. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since we’ve addressed this prior to the Wealdstone tournament our performances have improved so thanks again to all the parents for their support in this, lets keep it up!

Goals – Lewis W, Harvey, James, Lewis T

MOM - Sid

Come on you Stones!
