A classic game of 2 halves
Squad shuffle unsettles side in second half to big consequences........
Without our goalie for this game we had to ask the boys for a volunteer to go between the sticks. Harvey stepped up to take that role.
First half we played really well and some good passing football and it was looking promising as we deservedly took the lead with a crisp move from keeper Harvey to Sid down the wing to James who beat a player and passed to Lewis W who finished neatly at the near post. At the other end Sid and Sam marshalled the defence well with some really good distribution to the midfield and Harvey big and strong made some good saves and punched well from corners. Mason up top was excellent really pressing their defence when they had the ball and dangerous when pushing forward on the attack. Danny, James and Jamie worked hard on the wings and Lewis T in the middle protected the defence and pressed us forward. My only critisism of the first half is we didn't take more of the chances we created and only went in at halftime 1-0 up.
At halftime Harvey wanted to come out of goal and Mason went in along with a couple of other changes it seemed to unbalance the team not to say Mason didn't do well in goal making a few good saves and bravely taking one in the moosh! What we did miss was his energy up top and pressing of the defence. Harvey got in some good positions but didn't have the luck to score today with either a tackle save or shot just wide alluding him that goal. With the team unsettled APB took advantage early on and struck twice on the break early in the second half to take the lead. The boys started to get frustrated and despite switching things around again which seemed to improve things APB scored two more goals for the game to finish 4-1 and leave us very disappointed with the second half performance.
What we did take from today from moving a few boys around was switching Lewis T to the left wing and James to the middle worked very well with Lewis' pace and strength on the wing and James' quick feet and vision for a pass along with some tough tackles is something to try again.
As disappointing as the second half was we need to focus on the first half performance and how we played to take into the next game.
Well done to both Harvey and Mason for taking the gloves and both giving good brave performances between the sticks.
