Stones reach County cup Final

2 years ago By Jay Hogg

The mini bus is booked the champagnes on ice !!!

In the semi final of the middlesex county cup Wealdstone traveled away to Conquest Academy. Wealdstone looking to defy the odds and reach and incredible second consecutive county cup final and beating some good sides on the way including Hanwell, Whetstone and now conquest no one can argue the stones deserve there place in the last 2.

Wealdstone started very slowly possible not helped with the 3 officials turning up 20 minutes late and delaying kick off and possibly some nerves. Either way we could not have wished for a worse start Conquest kicked off played the ball back then through the middle beyond our back 3 and the striker hit the ball low and hard under the keepers legs, only 60 seconds gone and we were 1-0 down defiantly not the start we wanted. Conquest looked in control for the first 10 minutes forcing Jake into 2 or 3 good saves and Wealdstone just could not keep the ball.

Wealdstone finally started to wake up and gain more and more possession of the ball, Luke, George little and Lewis were now controlling the opposition attacks with some brilliant tackles and the midfield were now starting to create chances. Reece was a threat all game to conquest he never ever stops running and got into some great positions forcing 2 or 3 good saves from the opposition keeper. Reece also hit the post early on and had good one on one chances but was unable to find the net. Jacob also had 2 good efforts well saved and Ryan who was not meant to be playing due to an illness but a desperate plea to his mum in the early hours and she allowed him to play and thank goodness she did as Ryan grabbed the equalizer 5 minutes before the break David played the ball through and Ryan controlled it moved it and hit it into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

The half time whistle blew at 1-1 a great game to watch.

The second half started with Wealdstone on top and again us creating the better chances Jacob had a very good effort hit wide we had 4 or 5 corners but unable to get the decisive touch, Domm had a left foot effort wide, George little had afreekick hit into the arms of keeper. At the other end Conquest played good football and kept the ball well but were unable to get any shots away as they found it difficult to find any gaps in our 2 lines of deffence.

Then a moment of magic Ryan played a ball into the feet of Jacob who showed great skill with quick feet to side step the out rushing goal keeper hold of the two defenders and tap the ball into a empty net with 10 minutes remaining, the stones celebrated a really good goal.

Conquest then put some more pressure on us but again were unable to get any shots away and Wealdstone kept hitting them on quick counter attacks and maybe some better decision making in the final third we would have scored a third goal and a more comfortable remaining minutes. This didn't happen and it was a very nervy remaining few minutes, the ref blew his whistle to much relief and the celebrations started the STONES had reached a second consecutive cup final.

Myself Barry and Brad are so proud of this achievement for the boys they work so hard twice a week nearly 2 and half hours a time and put so much energy into there football that no one can deny they deserve it. Well done lads lets win it this year keep up the hard work many more league games to go before the final on 8th MAY.

Man of the match could have gone to a few players Luke was superb, Ryan meant to be ill was excellent, George little had his best game for a while but i decided the whole team so well done everyone.
