Whites in entertaining draw to open season

A bumper crowd turned out to watch the Whites open their season against Pro FA and they were certainly entertained with an end to end match that we maybe could have won. The Whites had three players, Callum W, Callum F and Daniel making their competitive debuts and also welcomed back Bailey after a short loan spell away. The game started well and it wasn’t long before we got our noses in front. Some good work from Callum W in the centre of the park saw him win the ball and quickly release Michael into the area, whose early shot across the keeper found the corner of the net. 1-0 to the whites and the perfect start. We continued to control the game and were looking comfortable, at the back Jamie continued where he left off last season, clearing any dangerous attacks and Tommy was defending well in the right back position as well as providing a threat going forward, linking up with Fred s on the right who was getting into some good positions and delivering some dangerous balls into the box. Apart from a couple of long balls through which were dealt with well by Jack we were looking very comfortable. It wouldn’t be long before we got the second, good work in midfield by Bailey saw him play a lovely waited ball through to Michael who cut in front of the defender and slotted the ball past the keeper into the corner. 2-0 and fully deserved. As the half went on we were still looking good, Oscar was winning everything in the middle and we were getting the ball forward quickly to Fred G and Fred S in the wide position but we just couldn’t get the third goal. With about 5 minutes of the half to go Pro FA would halve the deficit through a great strike which Jack could do nothing about, 2-1 as the whistle went. After a good first half we were looking to start the second half on the front foot and continued to boss things, the defensive three of Tommy, Jamie and Daniel were holding firm and we still looked dangerous on the break. However the scores were soon level, after a bit of a mix up at the back Pro FA somehow got in and scored a soft goal, 2-2 and we had it all to do again. To the boys credit they got right back up for it and began to put pressure onto the Pro FA back line. Several corners were won and some good delivery by Fred G did not get the reward it deserved. Another quick break saw Michael get away from the defender only to be tripped as he advanced on the area and win us a free kick. Quickly to his feet Michael grabbed the ball and decided he was taking it and duly despatched the ball into the top corner with nothing the keeper could do but watch, 3-2 and back in front. Again we continued to look comfortable and were getting into good positions, Kyal was playing well after coming on at left mid and making some good runs forward as well as helping out Daniel at the back. However Pro FA hadn’t given up and were soon back level. At 3-3 the game perfectly poised in the last ten minutes Jack made a couple of good saves and were grateful to more good defending from Tommy and Jamie. Going forward Bailey was driving on the midfield with Oscar clearing up everything behind him when it broke down. It looked like we would get the 4th goal but it didn’t come and against the run of play Pro FA would get the fourth. 3-4 and only five minutes left. Fair play to the boys they didn’t give up and continued to look for the equaliser. A throw was won on the left which Callum F took quickly, it was worked back to him and after taking a quick touch he wrapped his left foot around the ball and the keeper could only watch as it sailed into the far top corner. Great strike and a great sight as all the boys ran over to celebrate with him. We continued to look for the winner and would still have a couple of great chances but just lacked a little composure. The game ended 4-4. The boys showed great spirit to fight back after going behind and I’m sure if they continue to improve it will be a good season. Michael was voted man of the match for three good goals but special mentions to Tommy and Oscar who must have ran him close. A entertaining start to the season with plenty of positives to work on. Thanks to Anoop for linesman duties and everyone for great support. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
