Hard fought game ends in defeat for the blues

Wealdstone 1 - 3 Princes Park

Hard fought match ends in defeat for the blues.

The boys suffered their first defeat for three weeks after a evenly contested game against a good Princes Park team. The game started pretty evenly with both teams cancelling each other out with some good tackling in midfield and defence. Fred S was having a good game and on several occasions was beating his man on the wing and putting in some decent crosses that the Princes Park defence were doing well to deal with. The first real chance for the blues came with good ball through the middle releasing Michael in on goal, he got to the ball before the keeper only to be sent tumbling to the ground, penalty !! Well at least we thought it was but the ref saw it differently and nothing was given. We soon managed the breakthrough though, more excellent work on the right by Fred S beating a couple of men before floating a beautiful cross into the box that Michael just got a toe to and diverted into the far corner, 1-0. The lead would not last long though. A good ball inside the right channel was latched onto by the Princes Park attacker and he produced a good finish past Jack into the far corner, 1-1. The game continued at a frantic pace with both defences keeping strong and on the occasion our defence was breached Jack was on hand with a couple of good saves. Half time came with the score about right at 1-1. The second half continued in the same pattern as the first with our defence of Danny, Jamie, Thomas and Tommy all holding firm and Liam working hard in midfield. Fred S was still launching most of attacks from the right wing and with Oscar, Ryan and Fred G constantly pushing us on in midfield. We kept threatening to get in behind but Princes Park were holding out well at the back. As the game entered the last ten minutes the game was pretty even and it looked as though it would end in a draw only for us to be undone by a little bit of sloppy play at the back, allowing the opposition to get into the box on their left and a good pull back was well finished again into the far corner, 1-2. To the boys credit this blow only seemed to spur them on and we managed to force a number of corners and won some dangerous free kicks but despite some good deliveries from Fred G, we were stopped by some excellent defending and goalkeeping by Princes Park. Into the dying seconds and as we pushed for another goal to get the draw we deserved we were caught on the break and their striker ran through to just beat Jack to be ball and finish, 1-3 and full time. A good display again from the boys against a good side and the result certainly didn't reflect an even game that could have gone either way. Fred S was named MOTM after an outstanding performance on the right wing and special thanks to Mick for linesman duties. Although the boys were disappointed with a defeat, if they continue to play in the same way then the wins will continue to come. Thanks to everyone again for their support ⚽⚽
