Stones Comeback!!

Great game today the boys battled hard for a well deserved victory on a wet and windy day against Venceramos, 3-1!!

The game started at pace with both teams showing some good skills.
Venceramos started the sharper side with their attackers displaying good skills on the ball.
The early exchanges went their way and they took the lead with a great shot from the striker, the strong wind carrying the ball over Tommy and into the back of the net. 0-1.

The rest of the half was very even the stones came close with shots going just wide from Flynn, Jack M and Kai.
Flynn also hit the post and Archie had a hat trick of chances, unlucky Arch!!
Our defence had their work cut out with Venceramos making many breaks forward, Big Jack, Dylan and Alfie were more than up to the task.
Kallum and Flynn worked tirelessly to stave the opposition as joint CDM's
Half time 0-1 to Venceramos.

2nd half we made a few changes, Luke took over in goal, Alfie pushed up from defence to CDM and Flynn pushed in to center mid.
Venceramos went on the attack early and our defence was stretched there striker broke free and blasted the ball at Luke who made and outstanding save showing his strength using both hands to parry the ball to safety, great save Luke!!
Flynn then started to dominate possession in midfield and the Stones come back began.
Flynn attacked with a tenacious effort that saw him work his way through the defence. He ended up in front of goal one on one with the keeper and finished well with his left foot!! 1-1.

From then on the Stones started to play like we know they can with Kallum and Alfie marshaling in front of defence little got through.
When it did Big Jack swept up like a pro assisted by Reilly and some solid challenges from Jake!!
Tommy came on as striker with 20 mins to go and started linking up well with Jack M and Flynn.
Jack M came close to scoring as did Flynn but their keeper made some great saves.

We then began to pile on the pressure and it was all Stones with attack after attack.
Flynn threaded a lovely ball through to Tom who struck sweetly to the keepers right hand side and it hit the back of the net!!
2-1 Stones.

Venceramos then caught us on a couple of counter attacks with our old player Harry in the center of midfield. We were up to the challenge and Jake and Alfie got back well to thwart their attacks!!

Our constant pressure gave us numerous corners each time we came closer as Flynn and Kai's well arched crosses curled towards the net, Tommy just heading wide on one occasion.
On our 5th corner of the match Kallum and Jake made themselves a nuisance in the box and the ball found Tommy at the back post.
Tommy rose like a leaping salmon and headed the ball with class into the back of the net.
3-1 Stones!!

For the last 10 mins Alf dropped back making a back 4 and the defence saw the game out with no dangers from the opposition.
Final score 3-1 Stones.

It was a fantastic game to watch and the boys did themselves proud, good marking, movement, passing and the strength to come back!!

Today's contenders for MOM;
Kallum, a solid performance at CDM, never stopped running for the team.
Alfie, another tenacious performance from our total footballer, again he showed how he can change position with ease.
Tommy, 1st half in goal and then came out as striker in the 2nd half.
Cool finish for his 1st goal and a lovely header for his 2nd!!

Today this boy showed a master class in midfield, he was everywhere today tracking back on nearly every attack. Going forward he pulled the strings and the opposition couldn't cope.
He scored 1 and set up 2, a first class performance, well done Flynn MOM!!

Thanks Parents, I will be in touch during the week regarding training and next Sundays match.
